Collection: General Idea
Active from 1967 to 1994 in Toronto, Canada
General Idea was a collective of three Canadian artists; Felix Partz, Jorge Zontal and AA Bronson.
Their work always focused on the link between the making of art and its dissemination in the wider marketplace. Not only did they reflect on the idea of art allegorically, but also on its condition at a time when, as Fredric Jameson has argued „the cultural […] is increasingly consumed throughout daily life itself.“ General Idea’s media-based and conceptual art is represented in several permanent collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, the MoMA in New York and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, amongst many others.
