Kay Rosen is an American painter, who explores the intersection of meaning and structure in language. Drawing on the artists’ academic background in linguistics, she says: “The word is a construction that contains aspects of other physical constructions, like buildings or bodies.” Rosen makes use of color, material, scale, space, composition, typography and graphic design to emphasize the depicted wordplays. Her work has been exhibited and collected by Aspen Art Museum, FRONT International, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington D.C., Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields, MCA Chicago, MOCA Los Angeles, MoMA in New York and Whitney Biennial, among others.
