Collection: Lily van der Stokker

* 1954 in Den Bosch, Netherlands
She lives and works in New York, USA and Amsterdam, Netherlands

Depicting decorative or childlike patterns, Lily van der Stokker pushes established ideas of art on its verge. As decor, or scribbles are usually looked at as lower cultural products, Stokker questions in her work not only the value of art, but also plays „ping pong“ with the concepts of the “beautiful” and the “ugly”. In a brutal and unashamed simplicity, the artworks tackle everyday subjects, such as family, love, relationships, or the “nice”. Therefore she has become increasingly important for the discourse of post-feminist practice. Stokker’s work has been exhibited and collected by Museum of Contemporary Art Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Clinton and Koenig Gallery in New York, among others.
