Rosemarie Trockel is known for sculptures, collages, ceramics, drawings, photographs and textile works, that persistently imply subtle critique on traditional notions of femininity, culture or (artistic) production. Playing a crucial role in German conceptual art, she adds subversive layers to her artworks by either choosing specific historic iconography or subverting the material of choice, by using e.g. traditionally female techniques like weaving or knitting. Today Trockel’s works are held by international collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Gallery in London, and the Kunstmuseum Basel, among others.
