In her softly colored wall drawings, works on paper, and installations, Lily van der Stokker addresses themes such as domestic labor and interpersonal emotions. “I choose my subjects from areas that seem to be ‘forbidden’ in contemporary conceptual art, such as family life, optimism, and sweetness,” she says. In this way, she creates an art that is both “accessible and controversial.”
