Matt Mullican works in multimedia in the broadest sense. The range of his forms of expression is enormous, extending from fragile objects to massive sculptures, from reliefs to drawings, and including collages, light boxes, computer animations, glass works, videos, and performances. In his works, Mullican attempts to systematise a subjective world view; to this end, he has developed pictograms that attempt to capture his cosmology in model form. Models play a central role in his work, always functioning as abstractions of ideas. The publication provides a concise overview of this aspect of Mullican's work and shows his models in their highly diverse forms, formats and materials; 2- and 3-dimensional, in paper, glass, textile, ceramics, wood or as video animation.
