Initially published for General Idea’s retrospective Fin de Siecle at Kunstverein Hamburg in 1992, the colors depicted in Nine Lives are directly linked to the crest of the city of Hamburg. Each skull on the flag refers to one member of General Idea. As cats have nine lives, so the myth says, each member of the group gets three lives, summing it up to nine.
